About Convene

What is Convene by dan kosta?

Convene by Dan Kosta was founded on a simple idea: great wine brings people together.

After decades of making Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from California’s most celebrated vineyards, Dan Kosta launched Convene as a way to continue exploring exceptional wine regions while creating wines that are approachable, memorable, and meant to be shared. Today, Dan works alongside winemaker Shane Finley to craft wines that reflect the character of each growing region and the people who enjoy them.

Why did Dan Kosta start Convene?

After more than 20 years of making wine, Dan wanted the freedom to continue exploring the vineyards, regions, and relationships that have inspired him throughout his career.

Convene allows him to focus on what he loves most: sourcing exceptional fruit, blending thoughtfully, and creating wines that people genuinely enjoy drinking. It’s a continuation of a lifelong passion, built around the belief that wine is at its best when shared.

Who is Dan Kosta?

Dan Kosta is one of California’s most respected Pinot Noir producers and the co-founder of Kosta Browne Winery. Throughout his career, he has helped shape the modern reputation of California Pinot Noir through a focus on vineyard sourcing, blending, and craftsmanship.

Convene represents the next chapter of that journey, bringing together decades of experience with a continued passion for creating wines that people want to open, share, and enjoy.

What does "Convene" mean?

The name Convene reflects our belief that some of life’s best moments happen around a table, a bottle of wine, and good company.

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or simply enjoying dinner with friends, our wines are made with the hope that they’ll become part of those meaningful gatherings.

What is the philosophy behind Convene?

We believe great wine should be both thoughtful and approachable.

Our goal is not simply to make wines that earn praise, but wines that people look forward to opening. Every decision, from vineyard selection to blending, is guided by balance, character, and the desire to create wines that bring people together.

How does Shane Finley influence the wines?

As winemaker, Shane Finley plays an integral role in every aspect of the process, from vineyard evaluation through blending and final bottling.

Dan and Shane share a commitment to crafting wines that express place while remaining balanced, elegant, and enjoyable. Their collaborative approach combines decades of experience with a shared belief that great wines begin in the vineyard.

Where are Convene wines made?

Our wines are sourced from some of California’s most respected wine-growing regions, including Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Santa Lucia Highlands.

Each region contributes its own unique personality, allowing us to create wines that are expressive, balanced, and true to their origins.

We make our wines in Santa Rosa, California.

Why does Convene focus on appellation blends?

Many of the world’s great wines are blends, and we believe blending can create something even greater than the sum of its parts.

By sourcing from multiple exceptional vineyards within an appellation, we can showcase the broader character of a region while balancing texture, structure, fruit, and complexity. This approach allows us to craft wines that consistently reflect both place and style.

About the Wines

What kinds of wines does Convene produce?

Convene focuses primarily on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the two varieties that have defined much of Dan Kosta’s winemaking career.

Depending on the vintage, we may also offer limited-production wines and special releases available exclusively through our mailing list or club membership.

What makes Convene wines different?

We believe great wines begin in the vineyard, but they are perfected through thoughtful blending.

Rather than focusing on a single vineyard, many Convene wines are crafted from multiple carefully selected vineyard sites within a region. This approach allows us to create wines that capture the broader character of an appellation while maintaining balance, complexity, and consistency.

What is the difference between Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir?

While every vintage is different, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir often shows vibrant red fruit, silky texture, and bright acidity.

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is typically influenced by cooler coastal conditions, resulting in wines with darker fruit notes, structure, and savory complexity.

Both styles are distinctly California Pinot Noir, but they offer different expressions of place.

What is the difference between Russian River Valley and Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay?

Russian River Valley Chardonnay often highlights citrus, orchard fruit, and bright acidity balanced by richness and texture.

Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay tends to show vibrant fruit intensity and mineral-driven freshness thanks to the region’s cool marine influence and extended growing season.

Both regions produce exceptional Chardonnay, each with its own personality.

Are Convene wines ready to drink now or should I age them?

Most Convene wines are designed to be enjoyed upon release while still offering the structure and balance needed for aging.

Many customers enjoy our wines immediately, while others choose to cellar select vintages for several years. Proper storage will help the wines continue to develop additional complexity over time.

How should I store my wine?

Wine is happiest when stored in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature.

If possible, store bottles on their side at approximately 55°F and avoid areas that experience large temperature swings, direct sunlight, or excessive vibration.

What foods pair well with Convene wines?

One of the things we love most about Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is their versatility at the table.

Our Pinot Noirs pair beautifully with grilled salmon, roast chicken, duck, mushroom dishes, and pork.

Our Chardonnays complement seafood, roasted poultry, creamy pastas, and a wide range of cheeses.

Of course, the best pairing is often the meal you’re already excited to share with family and friends.

I'm new to Convene. Which wine should I try first?

If you’re discovering Convene for the first time, many guests begin with our Russian River Valley Chardonnay and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

These wines showcase the style, balance, and approach that define our portfolio and offer a great introduction to the Convene experience.

We ship to the majority of states throughout the United States. Because wine shipping laws vary by state, availability may differ depending on your location.

If you have questions about shipping to your state, our team is happy to help. You can also get more shipping information here

Why does someone over 21 need to sign for my wine delivery?

Federal and state regulations require an adult who is at least 21 years old to be present and sign for wine deliveries.

Carriers cannot leave wine packages unattended.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Delivery times vary depending on destination, weather conditions, and shipping method.

Most orders are processed promptly and shipped according to safe-weather shipping practices.

We are delighted to process your order and hold your wine until a suitable timeframe for delivery. We will contact you when shipping will be delayed.

Do you ship during hot weather?

Protecting the quality of the wine is our highest priority.

Ice packs designed for wine shipping may be added. Ice packs are typically effective for 2-3 days. During periods of extreme heat or severe weather, shipments may be delayed until conditions are safe for transit. We would rather your wine arrive later than arrive compromised.

Absolutely!

Many customers send Convene wines as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, client appreciation, and special occasions throughout the year.

Please remember to coordinate delivery with your recipient. An adult signature is required for delivery.
